Perform with Detachment to results

How can we perform without attaching to results? By doing what children do! When we notice small children, they keep doing something or the other. They keep moving, and keep doing. Nothing seems to bother them, nor stop them from doing. Each moment is like a new fresh moment for them. Could it be because they are detached to the results?

As we transition from children to older kids to adults, somehow we develop this tendency of focusing on results — how are we performing at school, scores, grades. At game, are we the winner, won by how many points? How did we perform in the competition? Did I do better than her, or could I complete it in 2 hours, or 1 year?

I am not trying to say, not to be spirited, or to not perform at one’s best.  Rather, perform the best, without being concerned of the results. It keeps the mind clear, at ease, enjoy the journey better, and still produce the best results.

This picture I included above is from our Yoga Performance this past weekend. The participants put lots of efforts and time in practicing and preparing for it. However, no one really had any personal goals or attachment to the results.  Our intent was to put our best effort, and gracefully enjoy the flow of the experience. We performed without attaching to the results, surrendered the results, and moved on with grace and peace. It was huge success, and received many good compliments from the audience that it was very well done.

Performing with detachment to the results, is the way to go, way to live without carrying any extra weight of arrogance or meekness.
